Exacaster placed in the top 3 at the 2012 OOHack Hackathon in Helsinki, presenting CrunchScoring, a model predicting startup success with machine learning.
A team of Exacaster data scientists earned a top 3 finish at the inaugural OOHack Hackathon, organized by Open Ocean Ventures in Helsinki on October 16, 2012. The event took place on the eve of Arctic 15, one of the region’s major startup conferences.
The competition brought together top minds from the data science community to tackle startup-related challenges using real-world datasets. For their project, the Exacaster team created CrunchScoring, a machine learning model designed to predict future startup success using publicly available CrunchBase data.

A team of Exacaster data scientists hit the top 3 at OOHack Hackathon #1, organized by Open Ocean Ventures in Helsinki on October 16, 2012. The event was held on the eve of Arctic 15 startup event.
For the hackaton, Exacaster team decided to test a few startup myths by employing machine learning techniques to crunch CrunchBase data. Some of the questions they addressed:
By applying predictive modeling and segmentation techniques, the Exacaster team demonstrated how data science can bring clarity to chaotic startup metrics.
This recognition at the OOHack event reflects Exacaster’s early leadership in machine learning, behavioral data modeling, and applied analytics. The team’s approach to startup analysis still influences how we think about data-driven decision-making today.
